Bugs to Love? Pests Not to Keep Away From Your Sacramento Home

Posted on February 26, 2013

You have had just about enough of the mosquitoes, spiders, and other bugs infesting your home or place of business. You want a San Francisco pest control company to figure out what’s going on and deal with it, stat.

But hold on a second. Not all bugs should be eliminated!

Certain bugs can actually help you keep away other, more harmful pests. For instance, dragonflies are not only picturesque marvels of nature’s engineering–they’re also seasoned mosquito killers. If you wipe out the dragonflies that dance around the duck pond out back, mosquitoes will likely begin to flourish there instead.

Ladybugs are also surprisingly useful – they actually feast on aphids, which attack your rose bushes and vegetables in your garden.
So save a little love for the ladybugs.

Bees are also often more friend than foe. Without bees to pollinate plants, California’s  crops would all wither and die. Of course, bees and wasps can be dangerous. But if you can tolerate them–and if they’re not in anyone’s way–you might just want to let bees “be.”

The praying mantis also helps with pest control by eating mosquitoes, aphids, caterpillars, mites, and eggs of other insects. In fact, some gardening catalogs actually sell praying mantises for this purpose!
